Klaneettitie 5, 00420 Helsinki
The Kino Kuutamo autumn season will feature three films selected based on audience suggestions. The third film in the series is The Summer Book, directed by Charlie McDowell.
We will screen The Summer Book twice on 8 December (at 14:00 and 18:00). Film history expert, PhD Harri Kilpi will give a lecture about the film from 17:00 to 17:45.
Based on Tove Jansson’s beloved novel The Summer Book, the film tells a magical and life-enhancing story of a girl named Sophia (Emily Matthews) spending the summer with her grandmother (Glenn Close) on a tiny island in the Gulf of Finland. While Sophia’s father (Anders Danielsen Lie) mourns the loss of his spouse, the waves gently caress the rocks, the sun shines and the trees grow.
The Summer Book is a depiction of the friendship between a little girl and an old woman surrounded by the Finnish summer dream, close to each other and nature. The film captures the Finnish summer and archipelago nature at their most authentic and beautiful.
