Susanna Alava: Toward the Light

“I found sensitivity behind grief and the light in the darkness.”
I have photographed emotions that are not always visible on the surface.
The story is about a journey into the unknown.
The courage to continue on one’s journey and feel one’s feelings in spite of everything.
How can we find light in the darkness and the ability to accept our limitations?
In the end, it is a journey to oneself and to life today, in the here and now.
The images in this exhibition include both dark moodiness and the beautiful and small wonders of nature. My goal is to transport the viewer into a world through which it is possible to reorient your gaze even in the midst of difficulties.
Key factors in my photography are the nature of light, nuances of colour tones and atmosphere. With my lens, I dive into my own magical world. Details and colour schemes are both my sources of inspiration and my subjects. For example, I use macro photography, multiple exposure and camera movement during exposure.
I look for presence, strength and peace when I shoot. Taking photos is also a way to deal with my inner world and emotions. My goal is to use image sequences to tell empowering stories and offer aesthetic experiences to the visitors.
