Tapani Launis: Genesis
Apr 29 – May 25, 2025
Hietalahdenranta 17, 00180 Helsinki
The exhibition presents generative event sequences, their stages of development, in which every shape, color, and element is precisely defined by its creator.
In recent years, new methods for creating artistic visions have been developed. A fully digital, algorithmic, and computer-assisted creation methodology has added a new dimension to the artistic work and its execution methods.
By “code writing” entirely through computer assistance, algorithmically, it is possible to create intriguing and successful visual scenes that can also evolve step by step in “generations,” generatively, using a fully controllable parametric software system. Each fundamental theme can begin with a simple elementary element “from an ancestor,” such as a Möbius strip and be followed and influenced parametrically to always construct a new generation.
The Möbius strip thus becomes a large family of genetically distinctive elements, which then form a tribe, and eventually these elements merge and interweave into a unified gene space. An important aspect is that every logarithmic step is fully controlled by the user (the artist). This is not a matter of artificial intelligence robotics, because every parameter controlling different features can be adjusted freely.
