The Cellar of the Sea – a dive beneath the Baltic Sea’s surface

Mar 5, 2025 – Jan 16, 2026

Suomenlinna C74, 00190 Helsinki

Take a dive into the wondrously diverse depths of the Baltic Sea. “The Cellar of the Sea” takes you beneath the surface to discover the secrets of the Baltic Sea – its ecosystems, unique history and valuable cultural heritage.

The exhibition provides insights into various regions of the Baltic Sea, its fascinating key species and environmental threats caused by human activities. Study the evolution of diving equipment and learn how shipwrecks reveal stories buried in the bottom of the sea.

The exhibition offers a versatile information package on the Baltic Sea and a chance to admire the works of Finland’s most prestigious underwater and shipwreck photographers, Pekka Tuuri and Jouni Polkko, as well as archipelago photographer Raimo Sundelin.

Welcome to an expedition that will deepen your understanding of one of the world’s most special marine regions and show you the importance of conserving it.

The museum is open year-round daily at 10:30-17:00 and during the summer season 2024, from June to August daily at 10:00-18:00. Please check the Suomenlinna opening hours and events calendar for any exceptions to opening hours: https://www.suomenlinna.fi/en/opening-hours/
