The Curse of Modigliani – Film Premiere
Jan 23, 2026 | 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Kaikukatu 4, 00530 Helsinki
Join for the premiere of the powerful psychological drama of The Curse of Modigliani, written and directed by Diana Ringo and starring Edward Pishiyski (Black Mirror, Sandman). Filmed in Helsinki during the summer of 2024, the film offers an intense, atmospheric journey into the inner world of an artist and the often ruthless realities of the art business.
Struggling to establish himself in Helsinki’s contemporary art scene, American painter Max discovers an antique diary believed to have belonged to the legendary Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. What begins as fascination soon turns into obsession, as Max’s life starts to mirror the tragic fate of the master himself.
The Curse of Modigliani explores the destructive power of artistic obsession and asks a timeless question: does true art demand suffering, or is that merely a myth we continue to believe? The film serves as a social commentary on the sacrifices faced by contemporary artists in a world that often values commercial success over artistic integrity.
The premiere will be presented by the film’s director together with members of the cast and creative crew. Following the screening, guests will have the opportunity to take part in a discussion about the film’s themes, and its reflection on creativity, ambition, and the cost of making art.
