The renowned abstract painter Mark Rothko and his assistant, Ken, challenge each other to grasp the purpose of art and its place in the world.

Red by John Logan is an intense two-hander about renowned abstract painter Mark Rothko and his young assistant, Ken, in the late 1950s. As they work on Rothko’s commission for the Four Seasons restaurant, the two men challenge each other to grasp the purpose of art and its place in the world, clashing over questions of artistic integrity and commercialism.

The play paints a vivid portrait of an artist at the height of his fame, wrestling with his legacy and the value of creative truth.
