Valon polku (Path of Light) – Kari Holopainen’s multidisciplinary retrospective exhibition

Apr 4 – 29, 2025

Klaneettitie 5, 00420 Helsinki

Holopainen’s large photographs and paintings allow viewers to deeply immerse themselves in the interaction between art and nature.

The Valon polku exhibition offers a unique overview of Holopainen’s artistic journey of more than four decades, combining photography, painting and sculpture.

The works in the exhibition highlight the central themes of the artist’s multidisciplinary work: the delicate dialogue between light, colour and material, which has been at the heart of his exploration since the 1970s.

Holopainen developed a method of polymer gravure that combines photography and graphics, and prints created using this method are included in the exhibition. The exhibition is mainly retrospective, but it also presents new pigment prints of photographs. They deal with the relationship of light and natural forms to the loss of biodiversity – a theme that is particularly relevant in contemporary art.

The large photographs and paintings fill the bright, large space and allow viewers to deeply immerse themselves in the interaction between art and nature. The exhibition also includes portfolios of images that introduce the audience to the different stages of the artist’s career.

The exhibition is an excellent opportunity to experience the artist’s pioneering work in photography and intaglio printing, for which he has become internationally renowned.
