Amuri
On the first evening of the Malmi Summer of Events, Kalevi Suopursu, Mikko Siltanen, Anna Pesonen and Sebastian Krühn, aka Amuri from Tampere, will take the container stage. The melodic roots of the band are entwined in the Finnish schlager, country and rock of the 1970s. Amuri’s 2020 debut contained many modern classics, and the follow-up albums have continued in the same vein. The newest record, ‘Kun mä kotoa lähdin’ (2024), is the band’s fourth album, and it was chosen as record of the week on Radio Helsinki and as one of the top twelve albums of 2024 by critics at Helsingin Sanomat.

Ville Leinonen & Valumo
Ville Leinonen & Valumo, who were active for seven years between 1998 and 2005, are now returning to the stage. The Tampere-based band that was established in Savonlinna, was out of commission for twenty years. The group will now return in their most recent makeup, which includes guitarist Tuomas Luukkonen, bassist Jere Leinonen, keyboardist Tuomo Hokka and drummer Tommi Salminen in addition to singer Leinonen.

The group, which was signed to Poko Rekords, had hits such as ‘Tähtityttö’, ‘Tää on se ilta’ and ‘Enkeli’. Valumo released a total of four studio albums, two live records and a slew of singles.

“People have been asking about our return for as long as I can remember. I have always said no. It is not straight-forward to return to the songs you sang when you were young. It is like opening up diaries and tombs all over again. However, I feel like this period in time is in desperate need of emotional turmoil like this. Valumo live will meet this exact need. Twenty years since the previous gig sounds better than a smaller number of years,” Ville Leinonen says.

The young Leinonen was hailed as the new young romantic pop prince at the turn of the millennia. Ville Leinonen claimed his spot as a schlager composer for the new era and a strong interpreter and performer by mixing classic pop melodies and chanson with sensual texts. Leinonen’s soft sound, combined with electric guitars and the electric organ as well as the charged interpretation of the group’s exalted live performances, provided a new type of schlager for the young generation.
