Vuokko Takala-Schreib: The Brain in the Face of Global Threats

“The humorous symbolic works I have painted for this exhibition have been strongly influenced by the turbulent and threatening occurrences shaking the world.

In this exhibition – which is my first solo show in a gallery – I have experimented with a form of figurative painting that is unfamiliar to me, where I have sought to simplify the imagery of the visible environment into symbolic forms. In some instances, my symbolism connects to the traditions of colour field painting and concretism. 

The use of colour in my paintings is one of the main motives for why I paint in the first place. Primarily, I have created abstract studies of color forms, a few examples of which are presented in the exhibition.”
