Wilma-Emilia Kuosa & workgroup: Sensation/Aistimus/Sensation
Jan 19 – Feb 6, 2026
Klaneettitie 5, 00420 Helsinki
The poems, videos, photographs, soundscapes and other elements of the multimedia exhibition inspired by West Africa sensitize you to listen to your own senses.
Sensation/Aistimus/Sensation is a multimedia exhibition by jazz dance artist Wilma-Emilia Kuosa, whose poems, videos, photographs, soundscapes and other elements sensitize us to listen to our own senses. The exhibition’s materials have been collected from long jazz dance research trips in West Africa, where Wilma-Emilia lived in 2023-2024, working in several different artist residencies.
The exhibition includes an approximately hour-long audiovisual ensemble, which is repeated throughout the opening hours. The public can come to the exhibition at any time and follow the ensemble for as long as they want. In addition, the exhibition features multi-sensory surprise boxes that the public can explore on their own initiative.
We recommend that you bring your own woolen socks or slippers, as shoes will be left outside the gallery space.
In the exhibition, visitors can follow Wilma-Emilia’s routes while exploring materials that sensitize the senses. On display are poems, photographs, maps, diary entries and other clues that can be used to embark on a shared journey with your own senses. Soundscapes and other elements sensitize everyone to their own senses. The exhibition materials are trilingual (Finnish/French/English).
The exhibition includes material from various artists. Photographer Kaisa Penttinen’s images document Wilma-Emilia’s sensory experiences. The soundscape was created in collaboration with sound artist Viliina Kettunen. The paintings and canvases in the exhibition were collected from travels.
