Putting the grand voyage to Antarctica onto film in 1919, director James Francis "Frank" Hurley depicted one of the most famous, frosty expeditions of the century under Sir Ernest Shackleton. This year, the voyage can be experienced in an entirely new context as the daring images on screen are accompanied by the equally daring sound collisions of two experimental music pioneers Nik Void and Ilpo Väisänen.

In this early documentary, the tales of endurance are truly put to the test through the shipwreck of Shackleton’s team, to the fact that Hurley himself dove into the frigid waters of the sinking ship to save the reels that we see in South. In this collaboration between DocPoint and the Savoy Theatre, the film and accompanying melodies merge together to create a breathtaking atmosphere of curiosity, tenacity, and ingenuity, with a good dose of electronic music on top.
