Lotta Wennäkoski starts with an idea: In her Flute Concerto Soie she was inspired by images of fabrics, of see-through voile, of thick linen and silk.

Such images could well be said to apply to her music in general. Recognisable traits are the timbre of a sound, airiness, clarity – and silence. The FRSO’s own flautist Kaisa Kortelainen is one of the best of her generation. Soie was an FRSO commission in 2009.
