Laura Könönen’s (b. 1980 Espoo) work is widely exhibited in museums, galleries and as public sculptures, but actually she’d just prefer to exhibit them in outer space. Her work “No heaven up in the sky” was a part of the Helsinki Biennial 2021 program. In 2015 she was nominated for the Ars Fennica award.
In her own words, Könönen pursuits to sculpt the planet piece by piece back to its original form, stone. She uses references from pop culture as metaphors, such as leaping imprints of Converse sneakers on the Moon and a broken stone firmament. In the exhibition “Song remains the same” at Oksasenkatu 11, Könönen’s stone planet is complemented with new notes and observations.
