The Hungarian born painter Nándor Mikola (1911–2006) moved to Finland in the 1930s.

Mikola was a prominent watercolor artist, and his landscape paintings, abstract paintings, and other works are popular within art collectors to this day. Nándor Mikola was awarded the title of professor in 1979 for his artistic work and for his promotion of art.

This year marks the 110th anniversary of Mikola's birth, in honor of which the Hungarian Cultural Institute and the Mikola Foundation are organizing an exhibition of the artist's maritime paintings.
