Soiva kieli vocal music series spring theme is the composer Franz Schubert (1797–1828) and the Schubertiades
This Schubertiade, on the 225th anniversary of Schubert’s birth, explores the composer’s artistic relationship with the poet and writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. One of the most celebrated writers in the history of German literature, Goethe was already a major cultural figure during Schubert’s lifetime. Schubet set Goethe’s poetry more times than he set any other poet’s words, and tonight’s programme showcases the range and versatility of Goethe’s poetic craft and Schubert’s immortal musical responses.
