The story of a wealthy widow’s marriage worries offers old-school glamour, merrymaking with Parisian nobility, catchy melodies, and can-can.

The story of a wealthy widow’s marriage worries offers old-school glamour, merrymaking with Parisian nobility, catchy melodies, and can-can.

Hanna Glavari is a rich widow in need of a husband. Count Danilo is the obvious candidate, particularly as the couple are already in love. However, Danilo refuses to propose to Hanna because of her riches.

It’s no surprise that this story of a wealthy widow’s marriage worries has become the world’s favourite operetta.
