Deerhoof, Circuit des Yeux

If a bunch of avant-garde artists were to hole up in a punk band’s practice room to rethink the world, the result might be Deerhoof – and a chaotic yet beautiful world. This is exactly what this experimental rock band did with its album that it released last year. The US band, which has been playing together since 1994, went into a studio with two guitars, a bass and a drum set, and the result is restless punk funk combined with playful vocals and social criticism wrapped in great pop melodies.

The prestigious music publication Pitchfork has called Deerhoof “the best band in the world”. The Huvila gig will offer you a chance to see a band that creates the best possible world with its own rules.

Another act that knows how to deconstruct and reconstruct worlds is Circuit des Yeux, which will open the night. Circuit des Yeux is the stage name of the Chicago-based experimental folk artist Haley Fohr and her impressive baritone voice; this time, she’ll also be accompanied by a five-strong band.
