Emmi Valve (b.1984) is a cartoonist from Porvoo, whose works are often autobiographical or autofictional.
She works in many different forms, from small magazines to exhibitions and comic novels. Her drawing techniques also range from ink drawings to ink rolls and watercolors, as well as other traditional ways of imaging. Valve’s themes are often on the side of describing emotional life and she deals with topics such as mental health, loneliness and sexuality. Valve’s best-known work is the comic novel about mental illness Armo (Mercy) made in 2017 and she is currently working on a comic novel about heteronormativity.
In addition to the name of the exhibition, Love Rebellion (Rakkauskapina) is the working name of Emmi Valve's ongoing comic novel. The work deals with e.g. heteronormativity, gender, and queerity. The exhibition consists of concept illustrations for a comic book novel and an installation exploring the same theme.
