Singer-songwriter Grouper, whose real name is Liz Harris, will return to Finland in the spring after a four-year wait. Having sold out her previous show in Helsinki, the American artist will perform at the Savoy Theatre on Monday, 18 April.

Combining elements of ambient, dream pop and drone and featuring heavy reverb, Grouper’s music is melancholy, meditative and sometimes even extremely quiet. With their calmly playing guitars and keyboards, ghostly whispered vocals and various effects, the songs have drawn comparisons to artists like Arvo Pärt, Cocteau Twins, Eric Satie, Julia Holter and Brian Eno.

Highly regarded in the art music scene, Grouper has made herself a career spanning eleven albums and a wide range of special recordings released in small editions. Many of her albums have been praises by critics, including the 2008 breakthrough album “Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill” and 2014’s “Ruins”, which was awarded Pitchfork’s Best New Music designation. Grouper’s previous album “Grid of Points” (2018) was recently followed by an album of nine new songs, “Shade”, released on 22 October, with the singles “Unclean Mind” and “Ode to the Blue” proving that it has been worth the wait.
