As a part of the Kuoleman kättelemät exhibition, a series of workshops is held, implementing the same excercises used by the groups creating content for the exhibition.

How does it impact you when you know there’s not much time left? Where do you look to when a serious illness turns your life around? How do we want to see ourselves in the world, and what kind of an imprint do we want to leave?

In 2016–2022, authors, word artists and bibliotherapy counsellors Jenni Hurmerinta and Aija Salovaara organised word art groups at palliative care units and cancer associations in multiple cities. Hundreds of seriously ill people participated in the groups over the years to write about and discuss the uniqueness of life and its end point: death, which we all have to go through.

The texts created in the groups resulted in the Kuoleman kättelemät (Those Who Shook Hands with Death) exhibition. In addition to the texts, the exhibition also includes photographs from photographer/director Terjo Aaltonen.

Sign up for the workshop by sending an email with your contact information (name, email, phone number) to [email protected].
