Kusinerna Riippa – Toner från stugor och stigar – Tisdagsmatiné med folkmusik

The cousins Niko and Jessica Riippa are a Finnish-Swedish duo with roots in the village of Nedervetil on the west coast of Finland.

Jessica has a degree in both music and drama and Niko is the founder and guitarist of Wentus Blues Band which has played with many blues legends such as Eddie Kirkland and Louisiana Red. Last year they were added to the Blues Hall of Fame in Sweden.

Niko and Jessica have on their debut album made new arrangements to old Swedish folksongs but also made new compositions to texts by the poet Alexander Slotte. Slotte wrote lyrics to old folk tunes and published them in the collection of poems called ”Sånger och syner” from 1918 (authors translation: songs and visions). Jessica and Niko have taken these poems and made new modern folksongs were the fondness of their hometown can be heard. The album was released 11.9.2020.
