With subjects that are set to challenge listeners, Pelkkä Poutanen is composer Petra Poutanen’s genre-bending, outrageous and beautiful solo project based on folk music aesthetics. Poutanen’s performances have been described with words such as earthquake, Big Bang, hypnotic, and deep. Her tools include vocals which combine Scandinavian and Finno-Ugric vocal techniques all the way to throat singing, stringed instruments, and live electronics. Her music combines elements from folk music, classical music, root music, pop, and more experimental tonal worlds.
Etno-Espa is an annual city festival that focuses on modern folk music. The festival presents what Finnish folk music and folk music made in Finland can be today. The festival takes place in Helsinki, on Espa outdoor stage and additional venues from 1st to 10th and 18t of August 2022.
