Love’s ardour and agony are typical themes for madrigals, often put into metaphors and images of nature. In this concert the joys and sorrows of human life resound in the song and twitter of birds. In addition, they will perform works that are not madrigals in a strict sense, but similarly tackle the subjects of pain and love and are inspired by the surrounding nature.

The concert series Kamarikuorojen kevät brings together five Helsinki-based top choirs (Kampin Laulu, Kamarikuoro Audite, Spira Ensemble, Somnium Ensemble, Kamarikuoro Kaamos) at the Concert hall of Helsinki Conservatory of Music. Each of the choirs have a significant presence and artistic profile in the Finnish choral field. The interestingly curated concerts include a wide spectrum of music for chamber choir ranging from the renaissance to contemporary music.

Somnium Ensemble is a mixed-voice choir consisting of music professionals and experienced choristers. The choir has focused especially in the choral music of the romantic era and the beginning of 20th Century. Somnium Ensemble’s album “Unesi ääni” was awarded the title of the Album of the Year by the Finnish Broadcasting Company in 2019. Elisa Huovinen is the choir’s artistic director since 2021.
