SunJazz: Jonathan Bäckström Quartet

Jonathan Bäckström Quartet is an acoustic improvising quartet based in Helsinki. The four- piece was founded by bassplayer and composer Jonathan Bäckström in 2019. The current lineup debuted at the reputable ”Jeppis Jazz Festival” in Jakobstad, 2021 and has created a buzz on the domestic creative music scene.
The quartet features Adele Sauros on tenor saxophone, Marcus Wärnheim on alto saxophone and Benjamin Nylund on drums. Each musicians brings their own individual voice to the collective expression to create a strong musical statement.
Bäckström merges composition and improvisation, drawing inspiration from a wide variety of idioms and musical eras. The repertoire consists of pieces composed by Bäckström between 2019 and 2022 and will feature on their debut album which will be released in 2023.
