The San Jose Youth Symphony

The San Jose Youth Symphony 2022 International Concert Tour 

The San Jose Youth Symphony (SJYS) is one of the oldest youth orchestras on the West Coast of the U.S. Founded seven decades ago as part of the former San Jose Symphony, SJYS has a rich tradition of musical performance and education.

SJYS member musicians, of ages 8 to 20, are selected from more than 650 applicants through the annual Spring Auditions. SJYS comprises 12 distinct performing ensembles: two full orchestras; a chamber orchestra; two flute choirs; concert winds, saxophone, jazz, percussion, and harp ensembles; and two string ensembles. Each group performs a scheduled series of concerts each season and rehearses weekly from September to May or early June. 

The Philharmonic Orchestra is the premier ensemble of SJYS, led by Music Director and Conductor, Yair Samet.
