What remains, when we abandon matter? Contemporary circus piece Transparent Surfaces is a farewell ritual to consumer culture and to an ownership-centred worldview.

What remains, when we abandon matter? Contemporary circus piece Transparent Surfaces is a farewell ritual to consumer culture and to an ownership-centred worldview.

The piece builds an altar out of scrap and human bodies, with the performers joining together alternatively with each other and with scraps of metal. The lack of conventional circus equipment gives rise to distinctive movement and grotesque aesthetics.

Barbora Xu’s magical guzheng music guides viewers and performers through the stages of the ritual.
