Winter full of action
In winters Helsinki goes through a magical transformation. This is the time to wander through the streets, whilst wrapped up in something warm and visit all the fairs and treats that the city puts together for this season especially!
The winter swimming season is already well under way in Helsinki. All of these places stay open throughout the winter and cut a hole into the ice when the water freezes over. If you’re a first time winter swimmer, remember to take it slowly, drink plenty of water, and keep your head above the water’s surface.

Seasonal food
Every morning the sweet scent of cinnamon, sugar and butter fills the streets of Helsinki. The mouthwatering smell comes from the local version of the cinnamon bun known as a “korvapuusti”. Even though Finns generally eat savoury food for breakfast at home, when they go out to a café they nearly always order a cinnamon bun with their coffee.
