Artist Meet: Leena Vainio at Slow Art Gallery
Vulnerability is the core theme of Leena Vainio’s work. She reflects on trauma, feelings of grief and abandonment, transience and time. She is fascinated by nostalgia and longing for beauty.
Materials and techniques are selected according to the topics. She makes the installations from light materials, such as sheets and linen fibers. She uses embroidery in some works; a needle is a sharp pencil. Mixed media works sometimes also include woodcuts and inks. The layered paintings have visions of hope and light.
