Tango del norte are a band who enchant the audience with their playing and win them over with their humour.
The Finnish ensemble Tango del norte is an international award-winning top tango band whose journey began in 2011 with the music of Astor Piazzolla. The musicians have studied tango under the best musicians in Argentina for 15 years now. The result of this is a fine-tuned sound, enchanting the audience and garnering praise time after time.
In 2026, Tango del norte are embarking on a concert tour celebrating their 15-year journey. The programme features both brand-new arrangements and familiar old hits, ranging from traditional Argentine and Finnish tango classics to the music of Astor Piazzolla.
Over the years, Tango del norte have worked with a number of leading musicians and vocalists in Finnish and international tango. In 2016, Tango del norte released their CD Raíces de pasión together with Argentinian singer Romina Bianco, and in 2018, they released the critically acclaimed duo record Solos & Duos. In 2025, the band released their third album, Argentiinalaisittain. In October 2025, the new album was also released in Argentina with a few-concert tour.
Tango del norte have played more than 300 concerts all around Finland and performed on concert stages, at clubs and at tango festivals across Europe and in Argentina. In 2021, Tango del norte came second in the international Astor Piazzolla – Città di Trani 2021 competition in Italy that was arranged to celebrate the 100th jubilee of Astor Piazzolla. In 2018, the band’s bandoneon player Sami Pirttilahti won the international Che Bandoneon competition in the United States.
