Ánnámáret: Bálvvosbáiki

Aug 28, 2026 – Aug 28, 2028

Kiasma-teatteri

Mannerheiminaukio 2, 00100 Helsinki

Bálvvosbáiki is an audiovisual concert in which the Sámi yoiks (luohtis) performed by Ánnámáret intertwine with Turkka Inkilä’s nuanced electronic music, Ilkka Heinonen’s gritty and partially effected jouhikko, and Marja Viitahuhta’s video art combining animation, archival footage, and material filmed in Sápmi.

The luohtis reflect how the Sámi worldview manifests in the present day, while the concert also touches on themes of colonialism and environmental awareness. Are the female deities Sáráhkka, Juhksáhkka and Uksáhkka still present? Can the power of a sieidi be experienced through yoiking? What does intergenerational sorrow feel like?

The concert is part of Kiasma’s We Who Remain – Sámi Art in Focus exhibition’s programme.

Ticket includes admission to Kiasma’s exhibitions on the day of the performance.
