After the busy summer season, Suomenlinna is quieting down, but work is just beginning at the shipyard, as the historic coastal fleet base comes to life as shipowners arrive to renovate their vessels for next summer.

Spend a day at the Viapori shipyard!
There is plenty to see and experience in Suomenlinna every day of the year, as the landscape and atmosphere change with the seasons. The Viapori shipyard located on Susisaari Island in Suomenlinna is in use all year round, but as it is a construction site. Now is a unique opportunity to get to know this treasure hidden inside the island, which is the oldest in Finland and one of the oldest still operating dockyards in the world.

During the day, you will hear about the current operations of the historic Viapori shipyard, learn about the restoration of traditional wooden coastal cargo ships, and get to see docked sailing ships such as the Helena and Astrid.

Suomenlinna can be reached by HSL ferry
You cannot come to the shipyard area on your own, so we will meet at the gates of the Viapori shipyard at 11.00. You can find the place by crossing the Susisaari bridge.
The day ends about at 13.30 pm
The price includes a guided tour as well as coffee and buns. Ferry tickets are not included. Please bring warm outdoor clothing and shoes for your day at the dock. Combine a day at the shipyard with a visit to the Suomenlinna Museum! Ehrensvärd Society The association offers all participants a visit to the Suomenlinna Museum for the price of a child’s ticket of €5. At the Suomenlinna Museum, you can get to know the entire history of Suomenlinna in a nutshell. The benefit can be redeemed at the Suomenlinna Museum by showing your order confirmation of the shipyard tour.
