This tour consists of the main sights of Helsinki. We will use an air-conditioned car (if your party consists of a maximum of three persons) or mini-van (if your party is between four and six persons).
Our driver will concentrate on driving while I tell you everything that is worthwhile to know about Helsinki and Finland – and I will try to answer all of your questions. You will hear about the history of the „Daughter of the Baltic Sea”, being part of Sweden and of Russia and about the Finnish language, the most interesting language that you will get to know during your cruise. I will be waiting for you in the harbor, after security control.
We will see the open-air market place and the neo-classic Senate Square. The tour will continue through the Esplanade shopping streets to the park area, where most of the embassies are situated, on to the shipyards. The tour goes on to the main street Mannerheimintie named after the field marshal of Winter War fame, where the Parliament House, the new Centre Library Oodi, the National Museum, the Opera House and the Finlandia Hall, the concert and convention centre designed by the famous architect Alvar Aalto are located and where the Helsinki Accords were signed, thus beginning a process that would change the world, being the first nail in the coffin of communism.
The tour also includes the Olympic Stadium and the Sibelius Monument built in honor of the great Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. If open, an inside visit to the famous Rock church is made (3 euros/person). At the end of the tour, I will bring you back to your ship.
