SOLD-OUT Kari Hotakainen: Palvelija – When the helper loses their temper

Palvelija is a story about detective superintendent Arto Jylhämö who is giving a seminar lecture on “the human nature from the perspective of a criminal police”. In addition to the detective superintendent, the play includes a range of service-industry professionals from a midwife and priest to a psychiatric nurse and hairdresser.

Kari Hotakainen wrote the monologue Palvelija for Helsinki City Theatre. The play inspects the nature of being a servant — whether it’s just a profession or a characteristic deep inside a person. Multi-talented Martti Suosalo plays the role of the servant, as well as all the other parts while also directing the play.
