A toast to Gustav

In the year of grace 1790, when the Swedish navy achieved a great victory at the Battle of Svensksund, we assemble in the Ballast Room of Sveaborg for a cultural evening at the invitation of His Majesty King Gustav III. With His Majesty acting as cicerone, we partake in an evening filled with music of utmost beauty and excerpts from plays written by the divinely talented King himself. The musicians, performing on the cello and the harpsichord, entertain us with music by Karl Heinrich Graun, Francesco Antonio Baldassare Uttini, Johan Helmich Roman etc. The evening is concluded with a toast to His Majesty the King.

This is a production by Corda Rossa, an interdisciplinary network for baroque era art, in collaboration with the Ehrensvärd Society. It is realised with the support from the Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland, the Amos Anderson Fund, and the Tre Smeder Foundation.
