Two Helsinki-based musicians join forces in a captivating performance that bridges cultures, histories, and sound worlds.

The collaboration between Aizhan Sultan (Kazakhstan) and Saku Liimatainen (Finland) creates a living dialogue between modern Finnish and Kazakh folk music. Ancient traditions meet contemporary soundscapes.

Aizhan Sultan, a singer, songwriter, and researcher, explores themes of disability, identity, and post-colonial memory. Through her voice, Kazakh terme, throat singing, and the haunting resonance of the shanqobyz, she reclaims traditional sounds as tools of resilience and emancipation.

Complementing her is Saku Liimatainen, a live electronic musician, pianist, and composer, whose textured soundscapes weave modern Finnish sonic aesthetics into Aizhan’s nomadic roots. His live electronics reimagine folk traditions through ambient layers, rhythm, and improvisation – creating a space where ancient voices and digital futures coexist.

Together, they craft an intercultural conversation that is as much about history and identity as it is about transformation and artistic freedom. This is a performance where heritage meets innovation.
