One of the most beloved singers of our time, Arja Saijonmaa will embark on a concert tour entitled Laulu vapaudelle (‘Song for Freedom’) in spring 2026, where the fiercely spirited artist will tell her amazing life story to audiences through her most beloved songs and stories. The tour will arrive at the Savoy Theatre in Helsinki on Saturday 11 April.

The unique and personal tour is named after Saijonmaa’s autobiography published in October, and is the artist’s first extensive tour in Finland in a long time. After the concerts and their intermissions, Saijonmaa will hold a meet and greet session where she will sign books and albums.

“The songs of my life have come to me in mysterious ways, as if they were searching for me around the world. On the Laulu vapaudelle tour, I want to share these magical stories with the audience. It’s wonderful to finally be able to do a long tour across my beloved native country!” – Arja Saijonmaa

Saijonmaa is one of the most iconic Nordic singers and trailblazers of all time. Her 50-year career has included some remarkable moments: Saijonmaa has sung with Mikhail Gorbachev, adventured in the jungles of Central America, visited Yasser Arafat’s desert bunker and risen to singing stardom in Finland, Sweden and Norway alike. Her life as an artist has been marked by success, but she has also experienced tough setbacks in her career and personal life. She tells all this in a touching and entertaining way, often with a twinkle in her eye. Laulu vapaudelle is an unforgettable story about a talented artist who has lived a stunningly rich life.

Arja Saijonmaa began her singing and acting career in the 1960s at Helsinki Student Theatre and came to the public’s attention as an interpreter of songs by Mikis Theodorakis. Some of Saijonmaa’s best-known songs include Ystävän laulu, Högt över havet and Miten voin kyllin kiittää. In recent years, she has appeared as the star singer of the Elämäni biisi TV show and on the Swedish show Så Mycket Bättre, among others.

She has also gained fame in other parts of the world and was granted the prestigious Litteris et Artibus award by the King and Queen of Sweden in spring 2025. Saijonmaa has been an active advocate of human rights since the beginning of her career, and she has served as a UN Goodwill Ambassador.
