British Festival Ballet: Swan Lake

Swan Lake comes to Finlandia Hall for two performances in October 2026!

British Festival Ballet presents the classical ballet in Helsinki, with guest artists Yerkin Rakhmatullayev and Sofiya Adilkhanova from Astana Opera in the leading roles.

A prince, a swan and a spell. By day, Odette is transformed into a swan on an enchanted lake. By night, she returns to human form. Prince Siegfried falls in love with her and promises to break the curse, until the sorcerer Rothbart sends his daughter Odile disguised in Odette’s image.

The dual role of Odette and Odile is one of the defining roles of the classical ballet repertoire, contrasting the lyrical White Swan with the virtuosity of the Black Swan.

The production follows the classical tradition associated with the 1895 staging of Swan Lake, with choreography based on Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov and music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

The performances feature a full corps de ballet under the artistic direction of Yassaui and Sophie Mergaliyev.
