Charlotte Clermont: du soleil, que ça existe

Charlotte Clermont’s exhibition du soleil, que ça existe in Hippolyte Studio is a two-channel analog projection that explores the temporal dimensions of how the body forms, preserves, and creates what one translates as the real, using film, sound and space. 

Centered on themes of desire, distance, and language, this textual project moves through the vastness of language and landscapes, creating a sense of space within dialogues and approaching landscapes as bodies. 

It examines the human relationship with natural elements, particularly water. Fluidity—both of water and identity—is central to the work, inviting viewers to reflect on the nature of self and perception. 

Shot on black-and-white 16mm film, the images move away from classical cinematic narrative to become moving photographs. Though figurative, the slow panoramas of landscapes and close-ups of bodies tend toward abstraction. 

On a technical level, Clermont experimented with solarization to produce images that blur the boundaries between drawing, painting, and film. The result is a play of textures, light, and shadow that adds to the emotional depth of the work.
