Guitar Madness: Hommage á Gábor Szabó

Guitar Madness:Hommage á Gábor Szabó Jazz Concert

Join for a unique jazz concert bringing together three outstanding Hungarian jazz guitarists on one stage!

The collaboration between three leading jazz guitarists is a true rarity in the Hungarian music scene. István Gyárfás, Attila Rieger and Gábor Szalay are not only outstanding instrumentalists but also accomplished bandleaders, composers and music educators. The rhythm section, featuring Márton Soós on double bass and Balázs Cseh on drums, is equally impressive, with both musicians among Hungary’s most sought-after jazz artists.

The concert programme is based on the ensemble’s 2024 album Hommage á Gábor Szabó, through which Guitar Madness pays tribute to the remarkable life and legacy of Gábor Szabó, one of the most renowned Hungarian jazz musicians of all time.

Szabó was forced to leave Hungary in late 1956. The album features original compositions by the ensemble, with titles and moods reflecting different chapters in the legendary guitarist’s extraordinary life – from his early years and the height of his success to his return to his homeland, illness and tragically premature death.

With this album, Guitar Madness seeks to bring Gábor Szabó’s musical legacy to the forefront and keep it alive. This year marks the 90th anniversary of his birth.

A real treat for guitar music lovers!
