Helsinki Balalaika Orchestra: Rakkaus jää – Love Remains

This summer concert features traditional pieces by Helsinki Balalaika Orchestra – much loved by audiences – as well as works by pianist and composer Sergei Sokolov.

Pentti Yrjänäinen has arranged Sokolov’s compositions for a balalaika orchestra; these pieces draw on influences from classical music, folk music, bossa nova and jazz.

The orchestra’s own vocal soloists, Heli Jormanainen and Slava Druzhinin, give emotive performances of both timeless classics and new compositions by Sergei. The performance also features the orchestra’s instrumental soloists, Pentti Yrjänäinen (domra) and Mikhail Vasilyev (accordion). The orchestra is led by Gennadi Klykov.
