HrayBery is a Polish-Ukrainian band that brings forgotten music back to life.
The band’s repertoire consists of dance pieces (cossacks, kolomyikas, mazurkas, polkas, waltzes and more) reconstructed on the basis of archival sources – sound recordings or sheet music.
The melodies were collected by Ukrainian and Polish researchers in the area bordering the two countries. This repertoire proves the area used to be a melting pot of various cultures in the past.
The instruments used by the band – such as the violin, dulcimer, frame drum, and bass – were common in these areas from the end of the 16th century. The band’s sound allows the listeners to immerse themselves in the old, multicultural dance music of regions inhabited together by Poles, Ukrainians, Jewish and Romani people.
HrayBery has performed live at numerous dance parties and concerts in Poland where the band members reside. The band has toured abroad in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Italy, and took part in the WOMEX world music expo in Finland in 2025. In 2023 the band released their first album entitled Karczma (Inn).
