Jarkko Martikainen is going on tour with a new trio line-up
This autumn, acclaimed Singer-Songwriter Jarkko Martikainen will tour concert halls with a new line-up. Instead of the usual duo from previous tours, the new tour will feature a trio, with Percussionist Janne Mathlin joining Jarkko Martikainen and Petri Tiainen on the stage.
“Petri and I had been practising and doing concerts together for a couple of years when the subject of our dreams for the future came up. Our desire for more diverse forms of expression and more varied dynamics had led both of us to consider adding a third member to our group, and we each brought up Janne Mathlin’s name,” Martikainen says, recalling how the trio came to be.
The trio line-up adds significant additional dimensions to the concert experience. The tour features both new songs and songs from Martikainen’s extensive career, rearranged for the trio. The set list is built around material from nine solo albums, and it also includes selected songs from Martikainen and Tiainen’s band, YUP.
“In a nutshell, the colour palettes have broadened significantly. The age difference between the oldest and the most recent song will be around 32–35 years. Some songs will become more danceable, while others will become more harmonious. Some will become more playful, and others will become more solemn,” Martikainen says, describing the content of the upcoming tour.
Touring line-up:
Jarkko Martikainen: vocals and guitars
Petri Tiainen: keyboard and backing vocals
Janne Mathlin: percussion and backing vocals
Janne Teuronen: light art
Vesa Laasanen: mixing
Duration: roughly 2 h 30 min, including intermission.
