Kalmakumpu – Illustration exhibition at Café Napero

Kalmakumpu is Roope Eronen’s experimental children’s comic about an enchanted pet cemetery and its inhabitants.

The characters of the comic are largely based on suggestions from readers. The ideas for the first characters were collected from students of Annantalo’s comic courses. Kalmakumpu is published twice a year. The first issue was published in autumn 2025.

Kalmakumpu aims to deepen children’s relationship with comics through the broad emotional spectrum that it uses. The work aims to develop empathy among readers and strengthen the role of children as readers. It trusts that children are also able to process serious matters through what they read. Kalmakumpu deals with different dimensions of death in a safe and gentle environment.

This exhibition presents the characters and moods of the comic. It celebrates the release of the second Kalmakumpu album.
