Larufest: Pathos and Haydn’s Smile
Jun 11, 2026 | 6:00 pm – 7:15 pm
Myllykallionrinne 1, 00200 Helsinki
The internationally acclaimed string quartets Arod and Hanson, pianist Keigo Mukawa and violist Alexander Gordon perform works by Haydn, Vasks, and Mozart.
Haydn composed his quartet in 1797, five years after Mozart’s death, while Mozart wrote his quintet a decade earlier. In both works, the composers engage with inner tensions related to existence and life itself—tensions that would later find powerful expression in Beethoven’s musical revolution.
The ethos of Vasks’ work may be summed up in the idea that silence is not emptiness, but the foundation of spiritual and human connection.
The French Arod and Hanson Quartets are among the most highly regarded ensembles of the present day.
Japanese pianist Keigo Mukawa is known for his refined interpretations, while Alexander Gordon is recognised both as a violist and conductor.
