Special lecture by Bertalan Farkas, where you will have the opportunity to learn firsthand about the extraordinary life and career of the first Hungarian in space and the fascinating story of humanity’s exploration of the cosmos.

Bertalan Farkas (born in 1949) is a cosmonaut, fighter pilot and space explorer. On May 26, 1980, he travelled into space aboard Soyuz 36 to conduct research on the Salyut 6 space station. He thus became the first Hungarian in space.

His work has been recognised with several honours. His life story is an inspiring example of courage, perseverance, scientific endeavour and human curiosity. Through his achievements and career, he has also served as an inspiration to subsequent generations of Hungarian astronauts.

“To see Hungary from outer space for the first time, to see the sunrise and the sunset… Then seeing the constellations of the cosmic night, the mountain ranges in South America, the beauty of the deserts of Africa, and the red sand clouds over India.”
