The legendary Markku Aro is a true professional in his field and undoubtedly one of Finland’s most popular schlager stars.

Aro has been entertaining audiences for several decades. 1968 was the year of his real breakthrough hit Käyn uudelleen eiliseen, which was then followed by a long list of beloved hits: Hyvännäköinen, Moskiitto, Jestas sentään, Oma kultasein, Anna kaikkien kukkien kukkia, Etsin kunnes löydän sun, Pois sun vien, Kun sä vierelläin sateessa oot and Loit elämälle pohjaa, Keskiyön aikaan, Ollaan lähekkäin… In 1971, Aro represented Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Tie uuteen päivään by Koivistolaiset.

Having had a unique and long musical career, Aro is an artist who has secured a permanent place in Finnish people’s hearts. He and his Diesel band are always welcome on the stage. This group gives their all to the audience and exude an admirable love of music and the work of an entertainer.

In spring 2015, Markku Aro made an appearance in the popular TV show Tähdet, Tähdet. He was awarded the Iskelmä-Finlandia prize on 4 August 2017.

The first concert tour of his career, entitled Markku Aro 70 vuotta (‘Markku Aro 70 Years’), took place in 2019. His biography, entitled Markku Aro – Käyn uudelleen eiliseen (‘Revisiting Yesterday’), was published in August 2023 (written by Tomi Lindblom). Markku was on the successful Yhdessä (‘Together’) concert tour 2023–2024 with Lea Laven, Kai Hyttinen, Marion Rung and the Juhlaorkesteri band led by Esa Nieminen. In spring 2025, the same line-up embarked on part two of the tour. Markku had a 75th anniversary concert at Tampere Hall on 30 November 2024.
