Paavo Manninen: Satu- ja tarina kurssi 7-8-vuotiaille – Fairy tale and story course for 7-8-year-olds – 7-8-year-olds, born 2017-2019

The literature course dives into the world of fairy tales and stories. Stories are read, told, and the images evoked by them are painted in a playful small group that develops emotional skills.

In the literature course for 7–8-year-olds (10 x 90 min), fairy tales are read, the thoughts evoked by them are discussed and guided exercises are carried out. Children tell their own stories, draw and paint images related to what they have read, and do theatre. Children imagine past and future for the characters and come up with alternative plots. The small group (4–8 children) has a playful and safe atmosphere, and the teaching strengthens the child’s emotional skills, ability to reflect and imagine. Participants will be able to take their stories and works of art with them. The teaching language is Finnish, but the child does not need to be able to read or write on the course – motivation to listen to and tell stories is enough. The teacher, Ph.D. Paavo Manninen is a literary teacher, researcher and literary therapy instructor with a lot of experience in children’s literary art. The price of the course is 450 euros (incl. material costs).

Registration for the course is a two-step process: 1) Register by emailing the instructor at paavo.t.manninen@jyu.fi by May 11, 2026 (please include your child’s age, name, and the contact information of the parent(s) or guardian(s)) and 2) by making a binding registration by paying the course fee by August 3, 2026 (detailed payment instructions will be provided upon email registration; the fee is non-refundable).
