Puhos – from a shopping mall in East Helsinki to an oasis of cultures
May 8 – Jun 7, 2026
Turunlinnantie 1, 00900 Helsinki
Puhos in Puotinharju is much more than a shopping centre – it is a vibrant meeting place where community and cultural diversity flourish.
The photographic exhibition opening in the Stoa gallery opens up a view of everyday life in Puhos and its many voices. The ethnic shops, cafés and restaurants in Puhos tell the story of the people who make Puhos a world of its own.
The exhibition depicts a place that evokes strong emotions – and invites us to reflect on what we can learn in Puhos about community, diversity and the constant change in the city.
The photos in the exhibition are mainly the result of Photographer Sami Mannerheimo’s multi-year photography project in Puhos, but the exhibition also includes photographs by Angela Musse and other contributors.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a book of the same name, which will be published in conjunction with the exhibition. The texts of the book, which are also quoted in the exhibition, were written by Joonas Kervinen and a group of contributors from the Puhos community.
