Sirius Teatern: This is Not Stalker
Mar 28 – May 9, 2026
Aleksis Kiven katu 17/ Bruno Granholmin kuja, 00510 Helsinki
Their last hope rests in the Russian permafrost
In 1972, the Strugatsky brothers published the novel Roadside Picnic, which became a sci-fi classic. In 1979 came Andrei Tarkovsky’s film adaptation, Stalker, which today stands as an iconic “bible” for cinephiles worldwide.
Sirius Teatern conceives the idea of creating a stage production of this canonized classic—a decision that feels bold and, above all, necessary. But they strike an insurmountable obstacle: the rights remain frozen solid in the Russian permafrost.
What do you do when the original is forbidden, yet its allure is too strong to resist?
Sirius Teatern presents the production This is NOT Stalker – a newly created stage work about a theatre collective that sets off toward the mythical Zone to find the lost copyrights, only to be stranded at a Russian border post. There, they are forced to scrutinize their own existence as the reality around them begins to crack.
