The Helsinki Design District
Celebrating 20 years of the Helsinki Design District
The Helsinki Design District is the vibrant heart of Finnish design, a walkable creative neighbourhood where beautiful things are made, found, worn, tasted—and lived. In 2025, the district proudly celebrates its 20th anniversary as Helsinki’s original design cluster.
Design District Helsinki brings together creative people in the heart of the city. There are almost 160 members in the Design District area, offering eg. ceramics, jewellery, Finnish fashion as well as international brands, local goods, and sustainable lifestyle products. There are also art galleries with contemporary art, photography, installations or sculptures in the area, not to mention the prestigious museums, such as Design Museum and Taidehalli/Kunsthalle Helsinki.

Celebrating 20 years of Design
Design District Helsinki was founded in 2005 during Finland’s official Year of Design. What started as a collaboration between a handful of passionate creatives and shop owners around Dianapuisto park quickly grew into a district-wide initiative. Two decades later, the Design District remains an essential part of the city’s identity—a destination where design, culture and community intersect.
This anniversary year will feature exhibitions, talks, pop-up events and creative collaborations across the district. Whether you’ve visited before or are discovering it for the first time, 2025 is the perfect year to explore everything Design District Helsinki has to offer.
Oasis of treasures
The Design District is an oasis for those in search of design, fashion and experiences in the heart of Helsinki. The Design District Helsinki initiative dates back to 2005, when Finland celebrated its Design Year. Numerous design shops and businesses began popping up around the Dianapuisto park, and entrepreneurs were attracted to the idea of working together and making Helsinki an even more fascinating city.
By following this little black logo, you will find design and antique shops, fashion boutiques, art galleries, showrooms, restaurants and design hotels, as well as the leading design and architecture museums in Finland. The creative neighbourhoods also host a wide range of urban cultural events – from open-air concerts to light art. Whether you follow the map or let your instincts guide you, you will return from the Design District with a rejuvenated mind and body!
Helsinki expresses and celebrates its quirky spirit through design. Design is an essential cornerstone of the city, it is integral to the way the city behaves and functions, which can be felt and experienced as you spend time here.
